When I first visited Bali more than 30 years ago, the island was the land of pray, music, and creation - silver craft in Celuk, wood carving in Mas, gamelan and botanical art in Peliatan, and so on, were amazing and fascinating.
爾後豊かな自然と穏やかなヒンドゥー文化という観光資源に目を付けたアマンリゾートを始めとする国際資本も進出し、島民の所得水準もそれなりに向上してきた訳ですが、一方で文化程度の低い大量消費型の観光客が好んで購う土産物の生産が忙しくなり、伝統工芸の質の低下に繋がったのは悲しいことです。
International capital like Aman Resort have come to explore the island for its rich contents of nature and gentle Hindi culture, and contributed to local economy through tourism industry. However, it is sad to see deterioration in the quality of the traditional arts, as average tourists tend to buy cheap 'exotic' souvenir in abundance.
今回泊まったヌサドゥアのハイアットの隣が、新婚旅行で泊まった旧プトゥリバリ。プライベートビーチ伝いに歩いて行ってみましたが、残念ながら営業を終了して改装中でした。
We stayed at a villa in Hyatt resort, and next to it was Putri Bali, where we stayed for honeymoon. Waled along the private beach and found the hotel was closed for renovation.
